Description | MAS (Media Application Server) is a set of packages that provide a network and platform transparent mechanism for delivering media (currently, just audio) from an application to a sound device. The architecture is very similar to X, and can be closely integrated with X. . This package contains the MAS server, which runs as a daemon and allows connections from MAS-enabled applications, providing access to the audio device on the local machine. . This package should be installed if you intend to use MAS to handle audio on the local machine. Note that there are currently very few applications that use MAS, and running a MAS server is incompatible with running another sound server such as aRts or ESD. |
